 Constituent Assembly

The constituent assembly was formed to framr the Indian constitution. Initially the total strength of the constituent assembly was 389 but after partition it was 299. The election was held in July- August 1946, by indirect election. It was finally constituted on November 1946. All the important personalities accept Mahatma Gandhi and Mohammad Ali Jinnah where the members of this constituent assembly. The first meeting was held on 9th December 1946. ************Dr Rajendra Prasad was the president of this constituent assembly.************The Indian national flag was adopted on 22nd July 1947. National anthem and songs were adopted on 24th January 1950. The last session was held on 24th January 1950 and total 11 sessions were held throughout the period.

The main source of the Indian constitution was the Government of India act 1935, French revolution, Britain, United State of America, Russia. Constitutions contains 395 articles, Preamble, initially 8 schedules (now 12).



Drafting Committee

Dr BR Ambedkar was the chairman of drafting committee. He was law minister also known as the father of Indian constitution or chief architect. There were total 7 members are there in drafting committee. It was formed on 29th August 1947. The constitution was adopted on 26 November 1949 but it came into force on 26 January 1950 because the purna Swaraj in 126 January 1930.

Preamble of the constitution

Inspired from American constitution, it is the identity card of the constitution. Also known as the Horoscope of our sovereign Democratic Republic.

Three new words added by the 42nd Amendment Act 1976. Socialist, Secular and Integrity.

Keshavanand Bharti case 1973, supreme court held that preamble is a part of the indian constitution and can be Amended.

Indian Union

Currently, there are 28 States and 8 Union territories. Last UT was Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, formed on 31st Oct 2019.

Out of 552 Princely states, 549 joint India n3 States Hyderabad Junagarh and Kashmir refuse to join India. However, later on they were also integrated with India.

First linguistic state was Andhra Pradesh created on October 1953.
